Tour the Travel World 100 years ago
The Burton Railroad Depot Museum invites visitors to step into an earlier chapter of Texas travel, when the railroad helped shape the rhythm and growth of small towns like Burton. Housed in the historic Burton depot at 507 N. Railroad Street, the museum offers a glimpse into the era when Burton served as a terminal on the Houston & Texas Central Railroad, connecting this quiet community to a much wider world.

What makes the depot especially meaningful is that it is not just a collection of artifacts, but a preserved piece of local history itself. The original 1870 depot burned in 1898 and was replaced by the current structure, which was later moved back to its original location and restored in 1990, just after turning 100 years old.
Today, the Burton Heritage Society owns and maintains the depot and museum, helping visitors experience railroad history through memorabilia, exhibits, and the story of how the rail line helped Burton grow.

For travelers, the Burton Railroad Depot Museum offers the kind of stop that adds depth to a day in town. It is a chance to slow down, imagine the sounds and movement of another era, and experience a piece of Texas history that still feels rooted in place.
The museum is generally open on select Saturdays and by appointment, making it a special stop for visitors who enjoy history, heritage, and the quiet charm of discovering a town through the stories that built it.
